Game 3 Nor'easters vs. Rockies

by Buck

Pickle's First Start

The Rockies are really an unknown to us, but judging from their accents, they are a Leominster/New Hampshire outfit, so they will be pretty good. The Rook has the ball, and this is his first start. Pickle is Plan 'C' due to the absence of Bullet. Pickle is a thoroughbred, and I know he is pumped for this.

Judging from warmups, they will have a good enough pitcher for the game. We went down quietly in the top of the first, with 2 strikeouts. Pickle came out throwing fastballs for strikes, jamming two Rocky hitters into popups. The Rockies did manage to turn a Nor'easter muff into an unearned run, but the Rook looked good. The Rocky hurler cruised thru our lineup until he got a little wild in the 3rd. We turned 3 free passes and a Rocky muff into a unearned run. Pickle was likewise cruising in the 4th when the Rockies cashed in on a 2-out Nor'easter muff, with two singles for 2 more unearned runs and a 3-1 lead after 4.

Big 5th for Nor'easters

This was a game of dualing self-inflicted wounds, and the Rockies hurler tee'd himself up again in the 5th. With 1-out, and Ski on first, the Rockies pitcher walked Buck, Nails and "Mike" in succession. A Grass single, a Supe FC and 2-out clutch singles by Ice and Papi hauled the Nor'easters to a 6-3 lead after 4 1/2 innings. Pickle cruised in the 5th, drilling a Rocky with 2-outs and stranding him.

Ricky Bobby to the Rescue

Pickle opened the 6th inning having given up no earned runs and a 6-3 lead. The Rook got 2 quick outs in the 6th. Pic then issued a free pass. That can temporarily disrupt your Chi. The next 3 batters hit safely, the last a ringing 2-bagger, clearing the bases and tying the game at 6. Supe and Pickle chatted when the inning was over and decided to hand the ball the veteran Ricky Bobby for the 7th. Ricky pitched as easy 7th, highlighted by a nice Ricky to Supe to Papi twin killing to end the inning.

On to the 8th

With on out, Ski singled and was moved to second on a Pickle out. Buck hit a ball into hole and fielded by the SS muffed it slightly and then compouned the sin by making a bad throw; Ski scoring the go-ahead run. The 'rally' ended there, but was another grinder inning for the Nor'easters. Ricky got us thru the 8th, pitching out of a 2-on jam and breezed through the 9th for a big Game 3 win.
